The clients windows XP Pro machine was infected with spyware after removing the infections and the computer appearing to run clean we were told that the CD/DVD drive would not work.The issue appeared to be driver related but we were unable to make any cd/dvd drive work in the computer.
We have seen this issue in the past and it has been resolved by removing the upper and lower filter keys from the CD/DVD registry key, but unfortunately these keys do not exist in this situation.We then decided to run a repair on the install (something that has worked on similar situations in the past) but in this situation the repair will not complete it comes up with the above message: The file 'asms' on windows xp pro service pack 3 cd is needed. Nothing we have tried will work, any ideas? (a clean install is a absolute last resort for this PC b/c the client has a old software program that he no longer has the disk for)One last note, I also tried going into the registry during the repair and creating the TEST folder to delete the upper and lower filters that is referenced by microsoft in this link, but the keys do not exist.Thanks! I tried removing the drive and scanning for devices, but nothing we tried prior to running the repair worked. The CD/DVD is not being seen during the repair thus causing the error. I am fairly positive it is not a XP CD issue. Currently the computer is stuck in the repair loop and cannot continue because the install does not see the CD.

Anyone have a suggestion on how to undo the first steps of the XP Repair or how to fix the issue from where I am currently stuck? (One more thing, we have tried multiple CD/DVD drives with the same result.)Thanks!
